Quick Summary of Car Wash Vacuums

New to the industry and need to learn a little bit more about car wash vacuums? In the basic sense, there are two types of vacuums commonly used by car washes. Central vacuums, like the ones offered by Vacutech, are large systems in which the motors and equipment that power the system are located in one spot. The equipment is connected to a number of lines that deliver suction to sturdy arch or boom stanchions throughout the property. Those vacuum booms and arches hold hoses coming from the central vac system, keeping it elevated off the ground and placed for easy accessibility, creating a convenient station for customers to clean their vehicle interior.

Another popular option that car washes use is canister vacuums. These are standalone units, typically cylinder-shaped, that each hold their own motor (or motors) to power the vacuum. Each vac has a hose that extends directly from the unit. They are installed on islands throughout the car wash lot for convenient customer use.

Central vacs generally allow you to offer more stations, as the larger equipment is located in an equipment room instead of taking up space on the lot. Rather than having to maintain multiple units, you only deal with a consolidated vacuum source that drives the entire system. The disadvantage is that if the central vacuum system is down, all of your stanchions may be out of commission until the system is fixed. Individual canister vacuums take up more space on the lot itself and each requires its own individual maintenance and cleaning. Of course, that means that if one unit is failing, it doesn't affect the other vacuums available to customers. Weigh the options and decide what works best for your business!
